Hollywood Bowl - Musical Magic Under The Stars
Since the Los Angeles Philharmonic inaugurated the Bowl in1922, with an audience seated on wooden benches on the hillsides of Bolton Canyon, the Hollywood Bowl has presented the world's greatest musicians and music under the stars for adoring fans. This Los Angeles cultural landmark - one of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world with a seating capacity of 18,000 - the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for almost nine decades. Since 1991, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra has filled the air in Southern California with the sound of music. The Bowl - one of Los Angeles County's parks - is open admission free throughout the year.
Hollywood Bowl - A Los Angeles Landmark. For 85 years, the Bowl's summer music festivals have been a paramount part of the culture of Southern California. The Hollywood Bowl's colorful and musical history was created by the legendary artists who have sizzled the stage - from Sinatra, Streisand, and Stravinsky to The Beatles, Baryshnikov and Garth Brooks. While Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nat "King" Cole, Elton John, and Judy Garland have headlined shows at the Bowl, the all-time attendance record was set in 1936 by French opera star, Lily Pons.
Music at the Hollywood Bowl. The Hollywood Bowl has been a sensational music and concert destination since it “hit” Southern California. The home of a classical music festival, the Bowl showcased world-renowned musicians and conductors, who have led the Los Angeles Philharmonic in summertime concerts for its illustrious 86 years. Distinguished vocalists and instrumentals, such as Itzhak Perlman, Plácido Domingo, and Beverly Sills, have graced the stage for Philharmonic and symphonic concerts. In addition to concerts of classical and popular music performed by the Bowl's orchestras, the schedule includes scores of music - from jazz to pop - visiting ensembles, Fireworks Spectaculars, and gaint-screen movies with music. During the day, the SummerSounds, California’s summer arts festival for children, entertains families. A buck still buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts during the summer festival season.
